Throughout his 19-year NBA career, former San Antonio Spurs star forward Tim Duncan developed the reputation as being the quiet type.

However, Duncan has been quite the opposite since his home country in the U.S. Virgin Islands was hit devastatingly by Hurricane Irma last week being one of the most prominent public figures helping play a part in the rebuilding efforts.

With that in mind, the 41-year-old recently made an appearance on CNN on “Anderson Cooper 360” to bring further light to the situation that has unfolded.

Duncan through his organization has helped raise more than $2.4 million in his relief fund to help provide much-need financial support to the rebuilding effort. He has been extremely outspoken in finding ways to help gather more attention toward the U.S. Virgin Islands in hopes of garnering more aid to the situation.

Although Duncan's home island of St. Croix was not hit, he did experience his first hurricane at the age of 13 when Hugo, a category 4 hurricane, destroyed 90 percent of the buildings located on the island and injured 80 people and took the lives of two people.

This is a personal cause for Duncan to help the people affected get back up on their feet from this damaging natural disaster. This should see his involvement in the rebuilding process remain quite significant for the next several weeks.
