Ben Roethlisberger has seen a lot in his career. The Pittsburgh Steelers legend played in the NFL for nearly two decades, after all. He's seen how much the league has changed. So when Roethlisberger opened up on what he though has changed in the league, fans were interested on his thoughts.

Ben Roethlisberger lamented the shift in attitudes amongst NFL players. According to the Steelers legend, the mentality has shifted from a team-first attitude to a more player-centric approach. Younger players are looking out for themselves nowadays instead of playing for the team. The recent NIL changes in the NCAA have only made players more “coddled”, according to Roethlisberger.

Steelers' Roethlisberger: “I feel like the people have changed in a sense. Maybe it’s because I got spoiled when I came in. The team was so important. Now, it’s about me and this, that and the other… It turned from a team-first to a me-type attitude… They’re treated so well in college. Now, this new NIL stuff, which is unbelievable… They’re coddled at a young age because college coaches need them to win, too.”

That's certainly an interesting perspective on things. Recent changes to the NCAA's ruling on players' NIL has made life better for college players. Now, they are allowed to profit off of the image they have built. However, the Steelers legend believes that this change has encouraged players to take a more self-centric approach to the team.

The 2022 season will be the first season that the Steelers will not have Ben Roethlisberger on their active roster. The Pittsburgh icon retired after the postseason this year, capping off a Hall of Fame-worthy career. The city will surely miss the presence of Big Ben, as the quarterback will fully enjoy the retirement life.
