The Pittsburgh Steelers are facing a rough offseason, as the team gets ready to part with two of its franchise players, both of which are top tier players at their respective positions. Because of this, former NFL player Deion Sanders has recently come out and taken some subtle shots at the ownership of the Steelers and the organization in general.

“The Steelers have a real problem and the elephant in the room is about to be exposed for what and who they really are,” Sanders said in a Tweet earlier today (via 247 Sports). “This won’t end well I promise [you].”

In another tweet, Sanders also addressed the Le’Veon Bell situation, chiding the team for not handling the situation as well as it should have.

“When will the Steelers admit they handled the Le'Veon Bell situation wrong What other team or sport that would allow 1 of their best players to sit out the entire season.”

As someone who has not only won multiple Super Bowls, but is also a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Sanders’ criticism doesn’t come from a place of ignorance. While the Steelers did have a more than capable running back replacement in James Conner, it was still odd to see them allow Bell to sit out the entire year.

Now, with the situation surrounding Antonio Brown coming to light, it seems as if Sanders is hinting that Ben Roethlisberger is the true problem on the Steelers. As many – including Brown – have said in the past month, the quarterback has a notorious history of openly criticizing players, coaches, and the team in general. Not many in the NFL have this sort of freedom, but it’s clear that the Steelers are fine with it. The only question is whether or not this will continue to hurt the team as time goes on.
