Although the Pittsburgh Steelers are mired in their preparation for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the divisional round of the playoffs, there is already speculation about their upcoming offseason. Of course, the first item on the list will be reaching a deal with star running back Le'Veon Bell.
Bell has already voiced his frustration with not having a long-term contract by now. He even went so far as to suggest retirement should the Steelers attempt to franchise tag him again. However, despite his initial comments, Bell has now said on Twitter that he is purely focused on winning a Super Bowl:
“I’m trying to win a super bowl,” Bell said. “I can care less about what happens after this season…my biggest thing I’m focused on is this team I’m on right now, playing for/with my brothers, & bringing back a 7th ring! what happens next year is irrelevant to my goals.”
It is a bit strange to see Bell almost do a complete 180 from the comments he made earlier in the day. Perhaps it was his way of trying to show how committed he is to wanting to stay in Pittsburgh for the long-haul and win it all this year. Either way, it served as a brief and unnecessary distraction from the task at hand.
Regardless, there is little doubt that the Steelers will need to pay top-dollar for a player like Bell, who is widely regarded as the best running back in the NFL. If Pittsburgh does go the distance this year, nothing tends to stretch a team's pockets more than coming off a Super Bowl win the year before.
