It is no secret that the Pittsburgh Steelers roster has undergone some significant changes this offseason. As a result, head coach Mike Tomlin has high expectations for wide receiver James Washington in the 2019 NFL season.

The Steelers made headlines with the departure of wide receiver Antonio Brown. According to Chris Adamski of the Tribune-Review, it appears Tomlin is hoping Washington can help fill the void this season.

“I'm comfortable with the guys we have in the room at this juncture.”

The Steelers selected Washington in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft following a stellar career at Oklahoma State. The former Biletnikoff winner struggled to find his footing as a rookie and was unable to etch out an integral role for himself in Pittsburgh's offense behind their dominant wideout duo that consisted of Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

He ultimately finished the 2018 campaign with just 16 receptions for 217 yards and a touchdown.

Regardless, it is clear that Tomlin is hoping Washington can step up his game this year. Smith-Schuster is slated to become the team's No. 1 wideout and has proven more than capable of doing so thus far in his career. However, Pittsburgh will still need to find a viable, complementary option to pair him with.

At this point, it seems the job may be Washington's to lose.
