The Pittsburgh Steelers suffered a huge injury scare after starting guard Ramon Foster was carted off with a knee injury he suffered at training camp practice. Foster went down in a pile-up during 11-man work and ended up clutching his right knee. There were fears that Foster may be lost for the season. Luckily for Foster and the Steelers, that isn’t the case.

Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network reports that Foster hyperextended his knee, but didn’t suffer any ligament damage and will not have to undergo surgery. He is expected to be out 4-5 weeks.

It’s huge news for the Steelers that their reliable offensive lineman avoided a more serious injury. As Kinkhabwala notes, no Steeler has logged more snaps than Foster since he came to the team as an undrafted free agent in 2009. Foster has been a picture of consistency, playing 14 or more games in eight of his nine years in the league.

It’s also terrific news for Foster from a personal sense. The 32-year-old is entering the last year of his three-year deal, so this season is crucial for him in terms of getting paid. His chances of landing a big contract would’ve taken a huge hit had he suffered a more significant injury.

Luckily, Foster dodged that bullet and likely won’t miss any of the regular season, which starts in six weeks. It isn’t ideal that he’ll likely miss training camp and preseason, but considering the circumstances, he and the Steelers would gladly take this outcome over the alternative.
