Despite a 2-5 start to the regular season, Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr was still in great mood to display some of his infamous verbal wit, nailing this play on words while assuring he got some great intel on rookie Eric Paschall.

The 41st overall pick is coming off a career-high 34-point, 13-rebound effort in a win over the Portland Trail Blazers, and Kerr gave credit to his college coach at Villanova, Jay Wright, who was spot-on in his assessment of the rookie.

“He said ‘you're gonna be surprised at how good he is in isolation' and he said ‘he is a typical New Yorker, a New York basketball player,'” said Kerr of his conversation with Wright, whom he coached next to during Team USA's participation in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

“He's confident and he's gonna attack off the dribble and Jay was right — that was a play on words, wasn't it? — That was pretty good, unintentional — not even a chuckle? Jay was Wright? W-R-I-G-H-T? Nothing? Fair enough.”

Following his failed dad joke, Kerr resumed explaining Paschall's breakout as a more-than-capable scorer, a trait he never showed during his three years in Villanova.

“I think this happens a lot in the NBA,” said Kerr. “You get a guy who doesn't score a ton in college and all of a sudden he has the space to move in the NBA and he starts scoring and you go ‘man, where was this?'

“It's a different game, there's so much court to work with, the rules are different. With Eric, we didn't expect this, but he obviously has this kind of potential and he's making the most of his opportunity and it's exciting.”

The Warriors will certainly welcome any sign of real progress from their young players, considering this is likely to be a reset season for the organization until they can get their All-Star core full healthy and ready to make another playoff run.
