The Phoenix Suns are hiring former Detroit Pistons executive Jeff Bower as senior vice president of basketball operations, according to John Gambadoro of Arizona Sports 98.7.

Bower will be tasked with turning around the Suns organization, which has been a walking disaster for years.

The Suns fired Ryan McDonough as general manager on Oct. 8, 2018, nine days before the 2018-19 regular season started. James Jones has been the interim general manager this season.

Bower has been executive with the New Orleans Pelicans and Detroit Pistons. He was recently with the Pistons from 2014-2018. Detroit fired Bower in the summer of 2018. We'll see if the 57-year-old will keep Jones or look to hire someone else for the general manager position.

The Suns haven't had a winning record since the 2013-14 season. They haven't been to the playoffs since 2009. The organization has been the laughing stock of the league. The fans in Phoenix are hoping Bower can turn the franchise around quickly.

The roster in Phoenix is headlined by Devin Booker and Deandre Ayton. The Suns are hoping they land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft so they can get Duke star Zion Williamson. The No. 2 pick wouldn't be bad either, as Phoenix could take Murray State's Ja Morant. The Suns are in dire need of a point guard.
