Houston Texans star quarterback Deshaun Watson has become the latest well-known NFL figure to provide some assistance for those in need due to the recent and ongoing coronavirus outbreak. The two-time Pro Bowl signal-caller has provided the funds to purchase meals for first responders in his hometown of Gainesville, Georgia, which notably includes the emergency room staff at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Leading to this tremendously generous act of kindness, Free Chapel Pastor Michael Thurmond received a phone call from Watson this week with the Texans quarterback attempting to figure out a way that he could impact his hometown in a positive way.

“We just kind of put our heads together and decided we need to help the people who are on the front lines, who are out there who don’t get to go home for lunch,” Thurmond recently told Nathan Berg of the Gainesville Times. “The nurses, the doctors, policemen and firemen. Those guys.”

Despite the fact that the Texans have been one of the most active franchises from around the league, and not in a good way, Watson still managed to step up to the plate to help out.

“It’s a blessing all the way around, and hopefully it inspires other athletes, leaders, businesspeople to follow suit,” Thurmond added. “We can’t do everything, but we can all do something.”

After setting a slew of high school football records in Georgia, Watson then went on to play at the heralded Clemson University for his collegiate playing days. He was then selected by the Texans in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
