In perhaps the most no-brainer move of the entire offseason to date, the Houston Texans have managed to retain the last remaining of the team's franchise players.

According to a Monday evening report from Field Yates of ESPN, the Texans have exercised the team's fifth-year option for veteran quarterback Deshaun Watson, which will cover the 2021 campaign. It is also worth noting that such a decision is more of a formality at this point, as the Texans are certainly highly likely to attempt to sign Watson on a long-term basis.

Head coach Bill O'Brien, who has been given complete control of the franchise, has made quite a few interesting roster moves this offseason — though holding onto Watson for a bit longer shouldn't surprise many from around the league. With Watson now in place for at least the next two seasons as the two sides will surely begin working out a new contract for the former first-round NFL Draft pick, the Clemson Tigers legend is now the only remaining staple of what was previously a perennial playoff team in Houston.

Most notably, the Texans previously traded away All-Pro wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins while shipping the prolific pass catcher to the Arizona Cardinals. The Texans did manage to add veteran running back David Johnson in the same deal as Hopkins before also acquiring wideout Brandin Cooks from the Los Angeles Rams in an entirely separate trade.

The Texans have now won the AFC South division in each of the last two and three of the last four seasons.
