The Houston Texans saw an opportunity to improve their offensive line and get franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson some protection when they traded for former Miami Dolphins left tackle Laremy Tunsil.

After his first season in Houston, Tunsil is welcoming the opportunity to sign a long-term deal with the Texans (via Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk).

Laremy Tunsil is scheduled to make $10.35 million under the fifth-year option for 2020. Considering what the Texans gave up to get the left tackle, they want to sign him to a long-term deal.

After a season in Houston, Tunsil seems to have found a home.

“I’m cool with it,” Tunsil told NFL Media on Thursday. “Whatever coach decides to do, I’m happy. I’d be happy to stay there with Deshaun [Watson] and help win games.”

The Texans gave up consecutive first-round picks and a 2021 second-rounder (as well as cornerback Johnson Bademosi and tackle Julien Davenport) to acquire Tunsil and wide receiver Kenny Stills, so it would make sense for Houston to secure Tunsil's place with the franchise.

Tunsil was named to his first Pro Bowl this season, and the Texans saw some marginal improvement from their line as a whole. Watson was sacked a league-high 62 times last season, but he went down just 44 times this year. Houston also overcame a season-ending injury to running back Lamar Miller and ranked 11th in rushing DVOA, per Football Outsiders.

Tunsil accumulated 14 false-start penalties this season, which serve as slight detractors. Regardless, these all seem rather inconsequential given the Texans now have a Pro Bowl left tackles.
