The legendary designer that created iconic Nintendo characters Captain Falcon, Fox McCloud and many more retires from his post. Takaya Imamura solemnly steps away from his Nintendo job after 32 years. Undoubtedly, not many fans know his name but they will always remember the stories and characters he helped create.

The final stage

Fans recognize other iconic personalities from Nintendo such as Shigeru Miyamoto, Satoru Iwata, and Reginald Fils-Aimé. However, there are many people behind the scenes of immensely successful games that deserve the same amount of reverence and respect. Imamura announced his retirement from Nintendo in a Facebook post that featured a selfie in front of his former office building.

“This is my last day going to work. I took a selfie with the empty (Nintendo) office. I guess I won’t be coming in here anymore. As you’d expect, I’ll miss it. I've worked hard for 32 years!”

Imamura chiefly worked on character designs for beloved Nintendo franchises like F-Zero and Star Fox. He is credited as the creator of Captain Falcon, Fox McCloud, and many, many more. Imamura served as a supervisor for the two recent Super Smash Bros. releases.
