Players who have the The Last of Us 2 PS5 version gets a free 60 FPS upgrade download update. The free update enhances the game's performance on the console. According to developers Naughty Dog,

“This allows you to choose your preferred framerate to complement the rest of the enhancements that are part of the PS5 backward compatibility with PS4 games, such as an enhanced resolution, faster load times, and more.”

The free 60 FPS upgrade download update, called Patch 1.08, will allow players of TLOU 2 PS5 version to choose their target frame rate between 30 FPS and 60 FPS. This free patch, says Naughty Dog, is just “the first step of working on the PS5.”

“The team has been digging into the PS5 hardware and the possibilities it unlocks since launch last year and we’re excited about what the future holds,” says Naught Dog's director of communications, Arne Meyer.

The Last of Us Part 2 originally came out exclusively to PS4 in June 2020, just a few months before the release of the PS5. The PS4 version of the game can be played on the PS5 via backward compatibility. These updates help make the game make use the PS5 to its full extent, allowing it to reach its maximum potential. The game eventually released to widespread coverage by media and fans, having one of the most polarizing receptions ever. The game's success led to it becoming Game of the Year of many different awards bodies, while at the same time having a lot of detractors from casual players.
