Oklahoma City Thunder star Paul George has come a long way recovering from a gruesome leg injury during a Team USA scrimmage. With five All-star nods and four All-NBA selections, George is one of the most coveted players around the league.

Despite being a potential rental for a year, the Thunder gambled on him and acquired him, forming a big three alongside Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony. The plan was to go all in or go home in the playoffs. Unfortunately, they fell to the Utah Jazz in six games, and many expected George to exit.

With George being a California native, the Lakers and their fans were nearly salivating at the notion of a homecoming for the forward, and many had it as a forgone conclusion that he would head to Los Angeles.

To the surprise of everybody, George has a new contract with the Thunder.

According to a tweet from Chris Grenham of SB Nation,

“Paul George told @dramadrama that he “just felt comfortable, like (he'd) been around those guys forever” during last season. PG said he never explored the Laker option and he understands why LA was upset, but he wanted to give it another shot in OKC. “It was no question.”

George clearly formed a special brotherhood in Oklahoma. With the former Big 3 reduced now to a dynamic duo, George and Westbrook will try to finish the championship aspirations that they started.
