According to ESPN, The Oklahoma City Thunder have signed Real Madrid forward Gabriel Deck to a four-year, $14.5 million deal. Deck has been a member of Argentina's national team for the last three seasons. Before making the transition to the NBA, Deck reportedly is working through an immigration process to travel to the United States.

Deck previously played for Quimsa and San Lorenzo before making his way to Real Madrid in 2018. Through his career overseas, Deck has become a FIBA Americas League Champion, three-time Argentines league champion, while also winning Argentine League MVP in 2018. Coming into Oklahoma City, Deck brings size and perimeter shooting as an asset to the Thunder organization.

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been in a position to build for the future.

Last season, the Thunder reached the NBA playoffs led by veteran point guard Chris Paul, but unfortunately lost to the Houston Rockets in the first round. As the team currently is 20-33 on the season, adding 26-year-old Deck is another move that can benefit them going forward.

Several young players for the Thunder include Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Luguentz Dort, Darius Bazley, and others. Gilgeous-Alexander has placed his name in NBA Most Improved Player conversations, averaging 23.4 points per game.

One of the central realities surrounding the Thunder right now is that general manager Sam Presti has accumulated an enormous amount of future draft picks. Few teams in the NBA have loaded up on draft picks more than Oklahoma City over the next five years. The next three years aren't a championship window for this franchise, but that three-year period could become the foundation for the creation of a formidable roster which — by 2026 — could be in position to do great things in the NBA.

Oklahoma City will look forward to its next matchup against the Utah Jazz Tuesday night. As Utah remains with the best record in the NBA, the Thunder will be tested to take down star Donovan Mitchell and his team.

The Thunder’s next two games afterward feature the Warriors and the Pistons later in the week.
