It was raining bricks inside the Chesapeake Energy Arena on Wednesday, especially during the fourth quarter of Game 2 of the first round series between the Utah Jazz and the Oklahoma City Thunder. During that period, the superstar triumvirate of Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony took turns in missing shots. And by missing shots, we mean a combined 0-for-14 field goal shooting.

If it were not for Westbrook’s two made free throws in the fourth, the trio would have gone scoreless in the quarter. Either way, it was a shameful combined effort by three heavily-paid guys whose primary collective job is to score and not get outscored single-handedly by Raymond Felton on any given quarter of any game at any point of the season. Overall, the trio scored a total of 54 points with no one among them getting 20 markers.

Westbrook led the Thunder with 19 points, Paul George had 18, while Carmelo Anthony had 17

To say that all three players simply did not have it in this game would be to gravely undervalue the terrific defense by Utah. The Jazz limited Oklahoma City to just 40.0 shooting from the floor.

The Thunder are hoping their star trio would not disappear when they needed these players the most. With the series tied and the Thunder serving as the road team in Game 3 this Saturday, Oklahoma City needs all the production it could get from Westbrook and company.

Through the first two games of the series, the Thunder have shot 44.0 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from the 3-point region.
