The Minnesota Timberwolves are having a relatively good season, all things considered. Despite having a young roster and low expectations, they are in the middle of a fierce playoff race for the eighth seed in the Western Conference. Key to their run has been Anthony Edwards and his electric scoring performances.

However, the Timberwolves were hit with some unfortunate news on Sunday night. Against the Brooklyn Nets, Anthony Edwards suffered an injury after colliding knees with center Day'Ron Sharpe. (via HoodieBev on Twitter)

To make matters worse, Edwards had to be helped off the floor, as the Timberwolves guard seemed unable to put weight on his injured leg. (via Bally Sports North)

This is unfortunate injury news for both Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves. After seasons of languishing at the bottom of the Western Conference, the team seemed to be heading into a better direction. Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell were able to play together, and they built an identity under Chris Finch.

Edwards himself was blossoming into a stud, as he's been a scoring threat from nearly every level. The Timberwolves star is averaging just over 22 points per game on solid efficiency, as well as 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Without him, Minnesota loses a key shot creator in the perimeter.

Hopefully, the injury turns out to be not too serious, and Edwards gets back on the court as quickly as possible. Edwards has brought a fire that the Timberwolves have lacked for a long time. It would be a shame to see one of their biggest stars in a while miss significant time.
