The Minnesota Timberwolves made a huge splash at the beginning of NBA Free Agency, acquiring Utah Jazz big man Rudy Gobert in a blockbuster trade. While they did send a lot of assets the other way, D'Angelo Russell is just one of many players on this roster that is very excited to see what they can do in the 2022-23 season.

Russell recently spoke to The Athletic and dropped a brutally honest take on his Timberwolves group:

“I’ve never played with a team on paper that’s this good,” Russell said. “Obviously on paper, there’s a difference than actual substance of us actually out there putting it together. I’m excited to see what it looks like, I’m excited for growing pains, I’m excited for the process. I’m excited for all of that. I’m excited for our growth as a team. It could be anybody’s night.”

On paper is the key here. However, it's interesting that D'Angelo Russell said this. Remember, he was a member of the Golden State Warriors dynasty at one point alongside the likes of Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson. Yet, the guard believes Minny is actually better. To each their own. It simply comes down to them putting it all together when on the floor.

Nevertheless, Chris Finch's squad is certainly full of talent. A frontcourt of Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns is going to be an absolute handful for opponents, while Anthony Edwards will surely take another step forward in Year 3.

D'Angelo Russell also discussed the possibility of getting a new deal from the Timberwolves, making it clear where he stands on that front:

“Hell yeah,” Russell said. “Obviously every player wants an extension, and you want to be in a position to do that.”

There were some rumors he could be moved after his poor play in the postseason, but it appears Minnesota plans to keep Russell. The former Ohio State standout will be looking to play a key part next season alongside his star teammates.
