The Tennesee Titans are doing all they can do potentially take that next step into the playoffs in the 2019 NFL season. It appears quarterback Marcus MAriota has undergone some changes of his own.

Mariota had indicated early in the offseason that he planned on getting bigger. According to Paul Kuharsky of PaulKuharsky.com, he is up 12 to 13 points since the end of last season:

Mariota currently weighs in at 230. Throw away listed weights from the official team roster, which tend not to be particularly accurate. I’m told his current number is up 12 to 13 pounds from where he ended the 2018 season.

This is certainly an intriguing development for Mariota. He is coming off perhaps the worst year of his career after throwing for a career-low 11 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and a career-low 2,528 passing yards. His struggles can largely be attributed to the lingering injuries he dealt with throughout the year. It seems he is hoping the added weight will help serve as a preventative measure for future injuries.

It is no secret that the jury is still out on Mariota. The Titans expressed some faith by picking up his fifth-year option last offseason, however, time is running out for him to solidify his status as the future franchise quarterback moving forward. He will need to have a big year if he hopes to be rewarded with a lucrative, new deal.

Although Tenessee has finished 9-7 for three straight years, there is still plenty of optimism that they will be able to get over the hump in 2019. There is no question that their success will largely hinder on Mariota's performance.
