Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill took to Twitter after agreeing to a lucrative four-year extension with the club on Sunday:

Tannehill's deal is worth over $118 million, with $62 million of that total fully guaranteed.

The Titans are rewarding Tannehill for his play and perseverance after he entered the 2019 season as a backup to Marcus Mariota.

Tennessee traded for Tannehill β€” formerly with the Miami Dolphins β€” to compete with Mariota for the starting job. Although Mariota initially won the job, he would lose the confidence of the coaching staff by Week 6, when Tannehill stepped in during a loss to the Cleveland Browns.

The Titans were 2-4 with Mariota as the starter. But things changed as soon as Tannehill took over under center. Tannehill won six of his first seven starts, throwing 12 touchdowns against just four interceptions while also helping the Titans jump back into playoff contention.

While Tennessee lost in Week 15 and Week 16, Tannehill performed well in a must-win Week 17 to get them into the playoffs. The Titans rode their momentum to the AFC Championship Game before falling to the eventual Super Bowl champions in the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Titans were rumored to be among the teams in the market for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, but ultimately went with the more familiar face in Tannehill.

What is next for the Titans? They are reportedly likely to use the franchise tag on running back Derrick Henry now that Tannehill won't be getting it, but they could lose one of their star offensive linemen in Jack Conklin, who is expected to command a big salary in free agency.

Nevertheless, expect the Titans to add to the offensive line and at the skill spots in order to put Tannehill in a better position to succeed.
