Tomb Raider will get its very own animated series, care of Netflix.

TOMB RAIDER ANIMATED SERIES CONFIRMED

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) shared the exciting news that fan-favorite Lara Croft will soon star in a Tomb Raider animated series on Netflix. According to THR, the animated series, known only as Tomb Raider, will follow up on the reboot trilogy. This coincides with Crystal Dynamic's plan to unify the trilogy with the original series.

THR also reports that the animated series will not be related to the Tomb Raider film series starring Alicia Vikander. While the movie scored high in the box office, critics didn't give it the thumbs up. Hopefully, the Tomb Raider animated series will both do well commercially and critically.

The new animated series' success isn't far from reality. Tasha Huo, best known for The Witcher: Blood Origins, is on board with the project. She will be serving as one of Tomb Raider‘s writers and executive producers.

The Tomb Raider animated series will follow in the footsteps of other successful serial adaptations of video game franchises commissioned by Netflix. One of the most popular of these series is The Witcher, which stars Henry Cavill as the titular character, Geralt of Rivia. In the animation department, the Castlevania animated series was also an example of a successful adaptation.

Of course, not all ventures of this kind succeeds. The animated series adapting Dragon Quest failed to win the hearts of viewers. The Monster Hunter film starring Milla Jovovich didn't fare well both critically and commercially, either. Interestingly, Milla Jovovich also starred in the critically-panned (but financially successful) Resident Evil film franchise, which bore little semblance to the video game series. Thankfully, Capcom has given the go-ahead for a new film series. We can just hope that this one will be a better product compared to the previous offering.
