Following the firing of USC head coach Clay Helton after their Week 2 debacle to Stanford, the Trojans have been left trying to figure things out on the fly. That includes the starting quarterback position.

Kedon Slovis left USC's game against Washington State on Saturday with an apparent neck injury and freshman Jaxson Dart came in and dropped a bunch of seeds in the Trojans' 45-14 win.

While Dart suffered a knee injury and hasn't practiced yet this week, Slovis, via ESPN, chimed in on a potential quarterback battle between the two for the starting gig.

“I'm not really focused so much on that,” Slovis said. “I'm excited for him, he had a great game, and honestly that's what we expect. He's a great player, great quarterback. He showed that all fall camp, and I'm excited for him and what he's done for our team.”

Slovis is the third-year starter for USC and is high on many NFL draft boards for next year. Yet it was the freshman Dart who wowed by throwing for 391 yards and four touchdowns in the rout over Washington State.

Interim coach Donte Williams mentioned it would be an open competition but also said if Dart can't practice this week then, “the decision's made.”

Slovis has returned to practice after leaving in the first quarter for USC against Washington State.

USC will play host to Oregon State on Saturday night and they enter the game as big favorites and that will stay put, regardless of who is under center for the Trojans.
