Tua Tagovailoa's brother, Taulia, made a valiant attempt to join the NFL after spending four years with the Maryland football program. Tagovailoa participated in the Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals' rookie minicamps after the 2024 NFL Draft. However, he has made a decisive move with a Canadian Football League (CFL) team.
Taulia Tagovailoa has signed with the CFL's Hamilton Tiger-Cats, per Ari Meirov. The professional move should bode well for the former Terrapins standout.
Tagovailoa joined the Maryland football program in 2020 after spending a year with the Alabama Crimson Tide. He built a sound foundation during his first year with the Terrapins, throwing for 1,011 yards and scene touchdowns. One year later, he experienced a big breakout.
During the 2021-22 season, Tagovailoa amassed a collegiate career-high 3,860 yards and 26 TDs. He followed the year up with totals of 3,008 yards and 18 TDs. Tagovailoa finished his Maryland football tenure with an admirable 3,377 yards and 26 TDs.
The star quarterback then turned his attention to preparations for the 2024 NFL Draft. However, Tagovailoa was not selected during the April event. Nevertheless, he earned the opportunity to work out with the Seahawks and Cardinals. After assessing his options, he decided joining the CFL was best.
Following Taulia Tagovailoa's professional journey amid his new move will be interesting. He may not have gotten the NFL opportunity he hoped for, but the experience he will gain with the Tiger-Cats will be invaluable. His brother Tu will be sure to root for him all the way. The star Miami Dolphins QB is making his own mark as he approaches his fifth season.

There is no question of the Tagovailoa brothers' talent. Their journeys have led them down different paths, but at the end of the day, they are professional football players. Taulia has incredible genes and takes after his older brother.
Tua Tagovailoa was one of the most dominant NFL offensive forces during the 2023-24 season. He threw for a career-high 4,624 yards (first in the league), 29 TDs (fifth), and boasted a QBR of 60.8 (10th). Tagovailoa helped keep Miami near the top of the league. Of course, he had great help.
Tagovailao's go-to target was All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill. Hill boasted top-two NFL rankings in receptions, yards, and touchdowns during the regular season. Unfortunately, the Hill-Tagovailoa duo could not lead the Dolphins to a deep playoff run.
Miami finished the season with an 11-6 record and made the postseason as an AFC Wild Card. The Dolphins faced the eventual Super Bowl 58 champion Kansas City Chiefs in the first round and lost 26-7. The defeat was somewhat of a letdown, given the potential Miami showed all season.
Nevertheless, the Dolphins are reloading for another strong showing in 2024-25. Things will not get any easier with the reigning champions returning in addition to a host of other up-and-coming teams, including the Seahawks and Cardinals.
With Tua Tagovailao at the helm though, Miami remains confident. Who knows, perhaps Taulia Tagovailao will one day share the same uniform as his brother. Regardless, he will be successful wherever he goes.
