Dalvin Cook and the Minnesota Vikings were able to finalize an extension on Saturday, making him one of the highest-paid running backs in the NFL. After signing the dotted line, Cook reacted to finally getting a multi-year deal with the Vikings.

“Definitely excited,” Cook said, via Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press. “Definitely a sigh of relief as far as being excited for being in Minnesota for years. That’s truly a blessing because I love being in this place, I love being in the locker room with the guys around. That was most important to me to being around the guys that love the most.”

Back in June, it was discovered that Cook could hold out during training camp in an attempt to secure a new contract. However, a provision in his contract would've made holding out a risky move, enticing him to attend training camp on time.

While he joined the Vikings in training camp, he was still hoping to receive a long-term deal before the 2020 season began. And after months of negotiations, Cook inked a five-year, $63 million extension on Saturday.

Cook, a second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, was entering the final year of his rookie contract in 2020. The Florida State product proved a season ago that he's more than capable of being a workhorse. At the same time, injuries are still a concern for Cook, who's failed to play an entire season thus far.

In today's NFL, it's extremely tough for players — especially running backs — to stick with one team throughout their entire career. With that being said, Cook seems interested in finishing his career with the Vikings and the feelings are mutual, given the deal that he got from Minnesota.
