Everson Griffen is one of the most talented defensive ends in the entire NFL, but the Minnesota Vikings are not sure when he will be able to get back on the field. As many know, Griffen is dealing with off the field issues stemming from an incident that saw him allegedly threatening to shoot someone.

According to a report from Adam Schefter of ESPN, Griffen is not expected to return to the field “anytime soon” for the Vikings.

Everson Griffen, who already has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles, is not expected to return to the Minnesota Vikings “anytime soon,” according to one league source, as the Pro Bowl defensive end tends to his mental health.

Minnesota has been struggling to start the 2018 NFL season. Their defense, which was expected to be one of the best in the NFL coming into the season, is ranked just No. 19 in the entire league by ESPN.

Another source told ESPN something that should concern the Vikings and their fans in a big way.

“Could be back next week or could never play again; you just don't know when it comes to mental health.”

Griffen has played in just two games this season, recording six tackles and a sack. Last year, Griffen showed superstar talent for the Vikings. He racked up 45 total tackles to go along with 13 sacks and three forced fumbles.

Hopefully, Griffen will be able to take care of himself off the field. His future in the NFL is not as important as figuring out whatever mental health issue has caused the change in his demeanor. If he is able to get healthy, it would be great to see him make his return to the Vikings.

Expect to continue hearing more about Griffen as the season continues to move forward. Minnesota could use his pass rushing ability, but it doesn't sound like he will be able to answer that call for the foreseeable future.
