Former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs had been disgruntled with his role for the better part of the 2019 season, and it seemed like a matter of time before the Vikings found an avenue for a trade.

However, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that was not the case.

Fowler said the Vikings had actually intended to keep the star wideout before the Buffalo Bills offered them their first-, fifth- and sixth-round picks in addition to a 2021 fourth-rounder. Still, there was a feeling Diggs desired to be the unquestioned No. 1 receiver elsewhere (via Jack White of USA TODAY):

“Trading [Diggs] was not the plan. But then Buffalo blew them away. Many around the league believe Diggs would have become combustible in Minnesota eventually and wanted to be a No. 1 elsewhere.”

Of course, Diggs had to battle with Adam Thielen for targets, and he also appeared dismayed at Minnesota's unbalanced rushing scheme.

The interesting thing about the move to Buffalo is Diggs still might not be an unquestioned No.1.

After all, Bills wideout John Brown is coming off a career year in which he had 72 receptions for 1,060 yards and six touchdowns as quarterback Josh Allen's favorite target. Allen also had good success finding Cole Beasley in the slot, particularly toward the end of the season.

Still, Diggs is clearly among the most talented receivers in the league. For all his frustrations, he still racked up a career-high 1,130 yards on the year. The Bills also figure to air it out more frequently with Diggs in the fray, especially given Allen's mobility in the pocket.
