The Golden State Warriors absorbed a, 127-101, loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday night at the Oracle Arena.

According to ESPN, the loss to Los Angeles in their Christmas Day showdown is Golden State's third-worst home loss under head coach Steve Kerr. The 29-point losing margin is just behind their 29-point loss against the San Antonio Spurs on October 25, 2016, and their 28-point defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder last November 21.

The Lakers looked like they wanted it more but were on the verge of a collapse late in the third period. Lakers superstar LeBron James down went out with a groin injury, and the Warriors unleashed a rally.

The Warriors pulled within two points after being down by 17, but the Lakers recovered and held on to the win. Los Angeles led by as much as 31 points in the final period, dominating the Warriors even without James on the floor.

The loss to the Lakers was Golden State's 12th defeat this season. Their 23-12 record is easily their worst 35-game record in the last four seasons. The Warriors are currently second in the Western Conference standings but are just a game ahead of the Houston Rockets and 2.5 games ahead of the Lakers.

Kerr said after the game that they are now experiencing the norm in the NBA now that opponents have made adjustments. The three-time champion coach said that they cannot expect to win 73 games again. He admitted that the loss to the Lakers gave them a reality check.

“This loss obviously is a smack in the face, and we have to respond to it,” Kerr said via the San Francisco Chronicle. “That’s kind of the name of the game in this league. We need to come in tomorrow, watch the tape, get some work in and get back at it.”
