It didn't take long for Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr to get his first sting of criticism at the wake of the Daryl Morey-Adam Silver-China controversy, asked for his opinion on the matter by reporters on Tuesday. Kerr called the situation “bizarre” and admitted he didn't know enough about the situation to comment on it, something that went over the head of FOX Sports Radio host Clay Travis, who called Kerr a “coward” for declining to have a say on the matter.

Besides berating Kerr and calling him a part of the “woke” generation alongside Gregg Popovich, and other outspoken coaches, Travis denounced Kerr having an opinion on politics, even if they extend far beyond American ones.

The Warriors coach didn't actually decline to comment, but rather said he'd rather inform himself first before giving an answer on such matter — which is what a lot of people should be doing before rushing to make unfounded and inaccurate comments.

The tiff between the NBA and CCTV is more than just a sports-to-politics crossover, which requires understanding the sensitive nature of an arduous battle between Hong Kong and China for democratic rights. China has never look fondly on outsiders commenting on their own political strifes, which is why Morey finds himself in a difficult position after doing something he's always been known to do — express his opinion.

Travis, a self-described “radical-moderate,” has been known to have stiff comments about several sports personalities, but he's erring to confuse transparency for cowardice when it comes to an issue of international affairs where business and politics intersect.
