The Golden State Warriors have promoted Aaron Miles to player development coach. Miles was the head coach of the Dubs' G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

Miles, 36, served as Santa Cruz head coach for the past two years. This offseason, he had the opportunity to coach Golden State's Summer League team and work with rookies Jordan Poole, Eric Paschall, and Alen Smailagic.

“I just want to become great wherever I’m at,” Miles told The San Francisco Chronicle in June, per Connor Letourneau and Jon Schultz. “If I have that opportunity and I’m blessed to become an NBA head coach, I would love that. If it doesn’t come in the NBA, whatever. As long as my family’s good.”

Prior to his coaching career, Miles actually had a short stint with the Warriors in the 2005-06 campaign when he played in 19 games. He was released in the same season and continued his basketball journey abroad. Now, he has come full circle and will play an intrinsic role in the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

Over the summer, the Warriors did not just lose two-time NBA Finals MVP Kevin Durant. They also had to part ways with Shaun Livingston and Andre Iguodala, two key players of their championship run over the last five years.

Now, their lineup is filled with young players who boast a lot of potential but still have a lot to learn. This is where Miles' role as a player-development coach comes into play.
