Golden State Warriors owner Joe Lacob has one dream for his team: become perennial title contenders like the Los Angeles Lakers. As things currently stand, they are well on their way there.

Speaking to reporters ahead of the 2022 NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics, Lacob shared his aspirations for the team, noting that there is “no point” to everything they are doing if they cannot become “perennially really good at challenging for a title.”

To further highlight his point, he mentioned how the Lakers made the NBA Finals 16 times in the more than 30 years that Jerry Buss ran the team. He wants the same thing or even better.

“I'll give you a statistic that I think is just the most unbelievable statistic,” Lacob said, per NBC Sports. “Jerry Buss owned the Lakers for 33 years. Does anybody know how many Finals he made in 33 years? Sixteen out of 33 years. Now THAT is remarkable.

“We've now made six in 12 years. So, I love the 50-percent rate. Whether we'll continue that, I don't know. But I'm sure as hell gonna try.”

Joe Lacob took over the Warriors franchise in 2010. Five years later, the Dubs returned to the NBA Finals and won the championship. The team has since competed for the title for the next four years after that, winning two more in the process.

Golden State missed the playoffs in the past two years due to a variety of injuries and other issues, but this 2021-22, they are heading back to the biggest stage of all. That means the Warriors have now made the NBA Finals six times in the 12 years since Lacob took over.

As the team owner suggest, that rate is really good.

Luckily for the Warriors, they have also set themselves up to be contenders in the next decade or so. They drafted well and developed players in the past two years, allowing them to have a good mix of veterans and youngsters on their championship roster.
