With the 2019-20 NBA season now in limbo, the Golden State Warriors can focus on building their roster in order to build the perfect roster and give the best core the Warriors have had in years a fighting chance of winning a championship.

Warriors owner Joe Lacob appeared on The TK Show and talked about the Warriors’ priorities in the coming offseason. They have the financial flexibility due to offseason moves from last season, and it’s clear that the Dubs are looking to extend their championship window with that.

Per NBC Sports’ Keith Smith:

“With their ages, we’re in a certain window of opportunity and we’d certainly like to take advantage of that window of opportunity. So that was our plan. And still, until further notice, is our plan for next year and the next few years. However, a lot of things could change and we’re going to have to adjust just like every other team has to adjust to whatever the new world is in the NBA.”

Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green — drafted by the Dubs starting from the tail end of the 2000s — create one of the most dominant cores in Warriors history. The Splash Brothers’ shooting and Green’s all-around utility were the key elements in the teams that won three championships over the last five seasons.

They have a chance to build another championship roster thanks to the trade they made involving Andre Iguodala. They have the league’s largest trade exception at $17.2 million after sending Iguodala to the Grizzlies last summer. They can acquire another great player with the exception or split it up and build a deep squad.

Whichever decision the Warriors make, it’s almost certain that they’ll come out of it stronger. They will once again become a team that will be respected throughout the league once the core comes back together next season.
