Originally the third overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Joel Embiid has overcome injuries and established himself as one of the NBA's best rising stars. In 62 appearances during the 2017-18 NBA season, Embiid is averaging 23.2 points, 11.1 rebounds, and 3.2 assists in 30.7 minutes.

After making his first All-Star appearance and leading the Philadelphia 76ers to a 44-30 record, the future is bright for both the 24-year-old and the franchise. According to Jae Azizi of Warriors Talk, Kevin Durant has high praise for Embiid:

In a time when big men are showcasing their guard abilities, Embiid is leading the charge with his all-around skillset. After being able to play in back-to-back situations for the first time this season, the key for Embiid is staying relatively healthy for the remainder of his career.

After years of rebuilding, the Sixers have established a young core of Embiid, Ben Simmons, Dario Saric, and Markelle Fultz. As they are chasing homecourt advantage in the playoffs, Philadelphia has become a team no one wants to face with a blend of youth and talent.

With so much potential, Embiid has an opportunity to meet Durant's expectations. Although LeBron James and Durant are considered the two best players in the entire league right now, Embiid certainly has the skills and personality to carry the next generation of players — if he stays relatively healthy.
