Klay Thompson can get up, though we don’t really see much of the shooting guard elevating for a dunk as he prefers to deal damage to opponents from his comfort zone: the 3-point area.

On one play during the Golden State Warriors’ 128-120 win over the New Orleans Pelicans last Friday, Thompson saw an opportunity to rise for a rim-rattler on the fast break and took it.

Maybe Klay Thompson would’ve liked pulling up for a 3-pointer that time, but doing that would’ve risked him losing a bet with Warriors big man Zaza Pachulia.

According to Mark Medina of the Mercury News, Thompson and Pachulia had a bet on who would be able to dunk first this season. With his slam on Friday, Thompson won the bet and bragging rights over Pachulia.

“I had a bet with Zaza on who can get the first dunk this season,” Thompson said. “I soundly won that. It felt good.”

Klay Thompson finished the game with 33 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field, including his jam that pinched the pocket of Zaza Pachulia.

It’s a bold bet to make for Pachulia since Thompson obviously has more opportunities to make a dunk given the sizeable differential in their playing time, but it’s probably just a fun bet between two Warriors teammates more than anything else.

By the way, Pachulia had more dunks last season than Thompson, 10-5.
