Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant has developed somewhat of a negative image since leaving the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016.

Many fans have noticed how much cockier he has been when dealing with the press and communicating with fellow players. His change in attitude has led him – and a majority of the Warriors, for that matter – to be one of the most hated players in the league.

Still, this reported animosity has not stopped him from working out with fellow superstars, LeBron James and Kawhi Leonard, in UCLA last Tuesday.

As soon as this news broke out, many fans have speculated that a James-Durant duo could be on the horizon, particularly because KD has a player option for the 2019-2020 season. While both players have had quite a rivalry in recent years, they are very good friends and would often work out together.

But according to Mark Medina of the San Jose Mercury News, their friendship may not be enough incentive for Durant to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers next season.

“I am willing to make a bet on Kevin Durant. I don’t see him going to the Lakers whatsoever, and I think the reason with that has to do with LeBron James,” said Medina. “Now, he holds LeBron James in very high regard. You know, they have a good relationship, but LeBron’s the guy that he wants to compete for with championships and legacy.”

It’s not surprising for people to come to this conclusion since he has found such great success with the Warriors and has won an NBA Championship and Finals MVP in each of the last two seasons. With the addition of injured All-Star big man DeMarcus Cousins, they are once again the heavy favorites to take home the Larry O’Brien trophy in June of 2019.

Although this may be disappointing information to some – particularly Lakers fans and supporters of James – many may respect Durant for his loyalty, especially since this has been a major criticism of his personality.

Right now, only time can really tell what Durant’s decision will be; but for now, he’ll be a Warrior for at least one more season.
