Steve Kerr, coaching the dominant Golden State Warriors to their third championship in the past four years, was congratulated by an individual that many wouldn't think of associating with Kerr. According to Caitlin Holroyd of theScore.com, Kerr was surprised by a text from Tiger Woods, a text none other than congratulating him and his team for their championship run.

Kerr recalled:

“I don't want to be a name-dropper but I guess the one that kind of (surprised me) was Tiger Woods. That was pretty cool.”

Holroyd reported that Kerr had connected with Woods due to the back problems both had experienced in the past. Luke Walton had served as the interim head coach for the Warriors as a result of Kerr having to take time off because of complications of a back surgery he underwent in 2015.  Woods, on the other hand, was forced to take a leave of absence from golf after undergoing four back surgeries in 2014.

Nevertheless, this friendship has risen from the unlikeliest of circumstances, as Kerr, reported from Mark Medina of the San Jose Mercury News, could not be happier for his friend in his quest to find himself back playing golf:

I know the pain he's going through, even though our situations are much different. I'm just so happy to see him out there playing and doing what he loves to do, back at it again. Whether he wins or not, you can tell he's happy.”

Who would have ever thought back pain had the potential to bring legends together, forging a friendship evident to this day?
