Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has “no update” on shooting guard Klay Thompson, who is recovering from a torn left ACL.

In fact, Kerr says he doesn't even talk to Thompson in the summertime.

“No update. I never talk to Klay in the summertime,” Kerr said with a laugh, via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “I just wait until I see him a day before camp starts. I know he had his fundraiser a couple days ago for the Bahamas relief. Some of the guys went down and saw him. I texted him a couple times. But for the most part, I’ve been kept up to date with his rehab by Rick (Celebrini). Sounds like it’s going well. But we’ll really reconnect on it at the start of camp.”

Klay Thompson is expected to miss a big chunk of the upcoming season. Steve Kerr and the Warriors are going to be cautious with Thompson since the Dubs gave the sharpshooter a five-year max contract this offseason worth $190 million. Klay’s long-term health is very important to the organization.

Thompson averaged 21.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the Warriors last season. The five-time All-Star shot 46.7 percent from the field, 40.2 percent from beyond the arc and 81.6 percent from the free-throw line.

In the 2019 playoffs, Thompson put up 20.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists. The Warriors lost to the Toronto Raptors in the NBA Finals in six games.

Golden State acquired All-Star point guard D’Angelo Russell in the sign-and-trade deal with the Brooklyn Nets after Kevin Durant agreed to sign with Brooklyn. Russell and Stephen Curry will share the backcourt while Thompson is rehabbing.
