The Golden State Warriors are one of the eight NBA teams whose season came to an abrupt end following the league's announcement of a 22-team format starting on June 31 at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Although he agrees with the NBA's decision, Dubs head coach Steve Kerr is hoping that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will consider allowing the eliminated teams to still hold practices and mini-camps to prepare for the 2010-11 campaign.

“The one thing that we are interested in is doing some kind of a minicamp if the league will allow it. Otherwise, eight months is a long time to go without any basketball at all. And that's what it would be,” Kerr told The Athletic's Tim Kawakami.

“We'd like to get together for some kind of minicamp or two. I'm thinking that the league will allow us to do something, especially given that 22 teams are gonna be playing and eight of us are not. I'm fairly certain the league will allow the other eight teams to do some practicing at some point whenever the time is right.”

Apart from the Warriors, the Minnesota Timberwolves are now also out of the running in the Western Conference. Only one team outside the top 8 in the East (Washington Wizards) was allowed to return, sending the Charlotte Hornets, Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks, Detroit Pistons, Atlanta Hawks, and the Cleveland Cavaliers to an early offseason.

The 2019-20 season, meanwhile, is expected to last as long as October 12 (Game 7 of NBA Finals if necessary). Teams can begin training camps for the 2020-21 season in November, while the new season is scheduled to start on December 1.
