Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera is not closing doors on the possibility of bringing in New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton next season.

Newton's name has been linked with Washington following reports that the Patriots are not looking to renew the one-year deal they gave him last year.

According to Ethan Cadeaux of NBC Sports Washington, the team's head coach Ron Rivera will at least consider taking in the 31-year-old signal-caller.

“I think the biggest thing we can say, guys, is that we’re exploring all of our options. Nothing is off the table. Again, as we go through this, we’re going to do what we believe is best for us.”

Rivera, of course, is quite familiar with Newton, as he played for him for the Carolina Panthers from 2011-19. After the Panthers released Newton last year, the Patriots brought him in as a replacement for Tom Brady at quarterback.

But to say that the 2015 NFL MVP had a rough going in New England would simply be an understatement.

The 31-year-old, 3-time Pro-Bowler completed just eight touchdowns against 10 interceptions but ran for 12 touchdowns. Moreover, the Patriots finished with an underwhelming 7-9 record under his watch and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2008. This is definitely not the start that Bill Belichick wanted in their post-Brady era.

Meanwhile, it's evident that Newton is no longer the same superstar quarterback he once was following several serious injuries in recent seasons. Still, there are other teams out there who could use his veteran guidance, so Ron Rivera and the Washington Football Team must decide quickly if they will bring him aboard.
