The Carolina Panthers will be without Cam Newton in Week 3 as Kyle Allen will step in as his replacement. The second-year quarterback will face the Arizona Cardinals as both teams are fighting for their first win of the season.

That begs the question, what should we expect from Allen on Sunday against the Cardinals? The Panthers backup quarterback will make his first start of the 2019 season but he's had starting experience before.

Last year, when Newton was sidelined for the final two games of the season, Allen was called upon to start in one of them. At first, Carolina gave the nod to rookie Taylor Heinicke to replace Newton in Week 16.

After a disappointing outing from Heinicke, Ron Rivera gave Allen an opportunity to take the reins of the offense. In Week 17 of the 2018 season, the undrafted quarterback out of Houston flashed some potential as an NFL passer.

The Panthers would secure their seventh win of the season with Allen leading the way. Allen would complete 16 of his 27 attempts for 228 yards and two touchdowns as Carolina took down the New Orleans Saints 33-14.

This time around, Allen will take the field against a decimated Cardinals defense. Currently, Arizona is without Patrick Peterson and Robert Alford in their secondary and their absence has been felt.

Through two weeks of the season, the Cardinals have allowed 309.5 passing yards per game (sixth-most in the NFL). Therefore, Allen could very well be able to take advantage of an abysmal pass defense of the Cardinals in Week 3.

The 23-year-old quarterback has a few dynamic offensive weapons to get the ball to on Sunday. The entire Panthers offense goes through Christian McCaffrey out of the backfield.

Along with McCaffrey, Allen will target D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel, and Greg Olsen. The last game that Allen started in, Samuel was able to corral two receptions for 72 yards and a score.

With those two having a noticeable connection, they could continue to build their chemistry on Sunday. Even so, the other receiving threats in the offense should see plenty of opportunities to make plays.

All of that considered, Allen could very well torch a Cardinals defense that has been susceptible to the pass.

Expect the young signal-caller to throw for 280 yards and two touchdowns in Week 3 against the Cardinals.
