On The Tonight Show, Foster confirmed that she was offered the role of Princess Leia. She was asked by Fallon if this was true.

“I was, yeah. They were going for a younger Princess Leia but I had a conflict,” Foster revealed. “I was doing a Disney movie and I just didn't want to pull out of the Disney movie because I was already under contract.

“And they did an amazing job. I don't know how good I would have been — I might have had different hair. I might have gone with a pineapple,” Foster continued.

Princess Leia ultimately went to Carrie Fisher, who would play the role in six Star Wars films across the original and sequel trilogy up until her tragic passing. The Last Jedi was released posthumously. She then appeared in The Rise of Skywalker, the final film of the sequel trilogy, thanks to repurposed archive footage.

Jodie Foster got her start by starring in films Napoleon and Samantha, Freaky Friday, and Candleshoe for Disney. She then gained further notoriety for her roles in Martin Scorsese's Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore and Taxi Driver. For the latter film, she received her first of four Oscar nominations.

Later in her career, Foster won Oscars for Best Actress for her performances in The Accused and The Silence of the Lambs. Her performance in Nell was also nominated for the award. In The Silence of the Lambs, Foster plays Clarice Starling, a role synonymous with her. She starred alongside Anthony Hopkins in the film.

One of Foster's recent credits includes the film Nyad with Annette Bening. Currently, Foster is starring in True Detective Season 4, which is airing episodes every Sunday through February 25.
