Washington Wizards president Ted Leonsis says head coach Scott Brooks' job is safe.

The Wizards fired team president Ernie Grunfeld on Tuesday. Grunfeld had been with the franchise since 2003.

Washington is going to miss the playoffs this season for the first time under Brooks. The Wizards hired Brooks back in 2016.

John Wall only played in 32 games this season. Dwight Howard appeared in just nine. Bradley Beal is a star player, but he wasn't able to lead the club to the postseason by himself.

Brooks is a good coach and liked by the players in D.C. Entering Tuesday, he has compiled a record of 124-118 with the Wizards.

It's unknown if Wall is going to play next season. He tore his Achilles tendon after slipping at his house. The All-Star point guard has to rehab two injuries now: his heel and Achilles.

Howard has a player option with the Wizards for next season, one which he will likely pick up since he only played in nine games this year. The former All-Star big man underwent back surgery earlier in the season.

Washington was hoping the additions of Jabari Parker and Bobby Portis from the Chicago Bulls would help the organization make a playoff push, but the team just built themselves too big of a hole to climb out of.
