Washington Wizards guard John Wall joined some elite company after his destruction of the Los Angeles Lakers on Sunday night. Per ESPN Stats & Info, Wall joined Gilbert Arenas as the only players in history to have multiple games with 40 or more points and 10 or more assists in a Washington uniform:

Wall arguably had his best game of the season en route to making history. The dynamic guard scored 40 points on 16-of-27 shooting to go along with 14 assists, six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. The game ended in blowout fashion, 128-110.

Wall's performance reminded the NBA that while the Wizards might be in the midst of a tough season, they still have one of the top guards in the league.

Wall has been lauded for his speed and athleticism ever since he entered the league as the top pick out of Kentucky. However, for all of his natural ability, the guard has been maligned for his lack of heart on defense and a few questionable showings in the playoffs.

It seems as if the Wizards have decided to stick with their core after rumors spread that the organization might be ready to blow up the roster and go into full rebuild mode. Instead, they recently traded for Trevor Ariza and will more than likely give this roster one last shot to prove itself.

If John Wall can perform at this level for the rest of the season, the Wizards could be a dark-horse candidate to make some noise in the Eastern Conference.
