The WWE has confirmed that WrestleMania will not push through at Tampa Bay, Florida due to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Ryan Satin of Wrestling Sheet, the event will be relocated to the WWE Performance Center. It will air live on the WWE Network and will also be available on pay-per-view.

On the other hand, in a statement released by the WWE, they clarified that it will be a closed-door-event and that only “essential personnel” will be allowed on the training facility in Orlando.

Per Pro Wrestling Sheet:

“In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place. However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 pm ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE’s training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania.”

The WWE is the latest sports event to change their plans amid the coronavirus outbreak. Just recently, the UFC also postponed its fights due to the growing concern about the coronavirus and its rapid spread.

Last week, the NBA made the big move to suspend its 2019-20 season after recording its first case of coronavirus. Utah Jazz star Rudy Gobert first tested positive for the virus, with teammate Donovan Mitchell and Detroit Pistons big man getting infected as well.

It seems more and more likely that the whole sports world would be put into a complete stop with the coronavirus still unresolved. While the WWE continues to operate, it will not be surprising if they also eventually decide to postpone their events in light of the recent developments.
