Seth Rollins has just been booked to face Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship in the next WWE pay-per-view, Royal Rumble.

Roman Reigns could have been stripped of his Universal Championship Belt had he faced Brock Lesnar during WWE Day 1. Instead, with the Big Dog out of the picture, Brock took the belt off Big E's waist. But wherever the Head of the Table goes, challengers follow. Even with Lesnar backing off a bit from Reigns' Universal Title, there's a new challenger in tow. Enter Seth ‘Freakin' Rollins and his maniacal laugh and feathered jackets.

At the tail-end of last night's SmackDown episode, Universal Champion Roman Reigns is brooding in his locker room, clearly bothered by his confrontation with Brock Lesnar on SmackDown. Then came a rhythmic knock to the tune of the old Shield Entrance Theme. Reigns asks the mysterious visitor to enter and in came Raw's Seth ‘Freakin' Rollins, fresh from his name change. No words were exchanged between the two, and the show ended with Rollins' unhinged laughter.

Earlier in the evening, SmackDown GM Adam Pearce was given an ultimatum to provide Reigns with his challenger at the Royal Rumble. With that said, Rollins' surprise appearance at the end of the SmackDown episode all but confirms the match between the two former Shield brethren. Hours after the show goes off the air, Fightful Select confirms that the match has been booked for the Royal Rumble.

The match between the two is highly anticipated by fans. The two have had a long history as Shield stablemates, even holding tag team championship together. Even before that, the two have had a lot of great matches down at NXT. Last year's storylines also involved Seth Rollins pining for the Universal Championship Belt, only to be passed over for the likes of Edge, Cesaro, and Daniel Bryan. Now, a year later, with Roman Reigns still the Universal Champion, Seth Rollins will finally get what he wants the most.
