The big bats in the New York Yankees lineup once again led the way against the Boston Red Sox. Anthony Rizzo and Giancarlo Stanton each slugged two-run home runs en route to a convincing 4-2 win over their AL East rival in the second game of the series.

Stanton and Rizzo also homered in the first contest of the series, and overall, they made notable history just two games into the 2022 campaign.

Stanton and Rizzo became the first Yankee teammates to record home runs in each of the opening two games of a season. Overall, only eight other duos have reached this feat since 1901.

For a storied franchise like the Yankees, it is quite noteworthy that no other duo in team history managed to achieve this feat. From Yogi Berra and Joe DiMaggio to Alex Rodriguez and Mark Texeira, the Yankees have had a multitude of tag-team sluggers who were revered by opposing pitchers.

While both Stanton and Rizzo are hitting under .300 to begin the season, Yankees manager Aaron Boone sure must be pleased that the two veteran sluggers emerged as difference-makers in the opening two games of the campaign.

The Yankees will now look to complete the sweep over the Red Sox on Sunday before they embark on a four-game series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
