The Philadelphia Eagles had another disappointing loss in Week 12 as they succumed to the New York Giants, 13-7.

Philadelphia looked like they were starting to make a run to catch the Dallas Cowboys for the top spot in the NFC East but unfortunately for them, they failed to get a game on them as the Cowboys also lost in Week 12. This was probably the worst loss for the Eagles all season as they are a significantly better football team than the Giants.

If the Eagles want to make the playoffs, they're going to need to play football the way that they know they can. There's no excuse for this team to be losing to the Giants. This game could come back to hurt them when it's time for the playoffs. Let's take a look at a few key takeaways from the Eagles' embarrassing Week 12 loss to the Giants.

Takeaways From Eagles Week 12 loss

3. Running the football was the key to moving the football

For what seems like the whole season, the Philadelphia Eagles have hardly run the football. This Sunday against the Giants, they were finally able to run the football and everybody saw that it helped the offense more than anything else. Boston Scott was able to rush for 64 yards on 15 rushes while Miles Sanders was able to rush for 64 yards on nine carries. The only seven points that the Eagles scored were from a Boston Scott touchdown.

If Philadelphia wants to make proper adjustments to their offense. they need to start running the football like this every week. There is no excuse for Philadelphia to have a guy like Miles Sanders not getting at least 15-20 touches a game. If they want to make a splash and possibly get into the playoffs, they need to start running the football because it opens up their offense and allows the passing game to be there as well. Jalen Hurts is never going to play as poorly as he did on Sunday. If the rushing offense can do what it did on Sunday against the Giants, the Eagles will be in a good spot.

2. The defense is improving

There are weeks where the defense doesn't look very good and others where they look like they are above-average. This was the case for the Eagles against the Giants as they only gave up 13 points. Daniel Jones was 19-30 for 202 yards. They also held Saquon Barkley to only 40 yards on 13 carries. This was a game that was solely based on their offense. Philadelphia's defense did everything that it could, and it continues to make the proper strides week in and week out.

1. Playoffs are still in reach

The loss against the Giants definitely hurts. The Eagles would have only been a game and a half behind the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East. Fortunately for the Eagles, they are still only two and a half games behind and Dallas has not played good football as of late.

If Philadelphia wants a chance to make the playoffs, their offense is going to need to start playing much better. There cannot be any missed passes in the end zone and multiple missed passes throughout the game for this offense if they want to succeed.

This was an important game for Philadelphia that they let slip away. But if they can come back and take care of business for the next few weeks, the playoffs are still very much in reach.
