The New York Jets seem to be hanging a lot of their hopes and dreams in the upcoming season on quarterback Sam Darnold.

A tall order, to be sure, but one that the rookie can more than deliver on.

According to SNY, Darnold is, of course, a premier player, but as of right now, he's the only premier player in the Jets' offensive stable.

“What they have is a deep threat in Anderson, who really does little else, and enough mediocrity elsewhere that Darnold was still able to complete 24 of 38 passes for 253 yards by spreading the ball around to nine different receivers. And none of them are really very good.”

So, the first goal that Sam Darnold needs to achieve is to be surrounded by players that can actually show they can get some results.

The second goal is, perhaps, the goal of every football team: to get to the Super Bowl.

While this is not an unusual goal for most teams, the fact is, the last time the Jets went to the Super Bowl was 50 seasons ago.

And that, folks, is a long time.

But Sam Darnold recently told The Morning Call that anything short of that will be a failure.

“That's the goal for everyone. Anything short of that is a failure and we're aware of that. Everyone is aware of that. Whatever my role is, I'm going to star in that role to work us toward that Super Bowl.”

Finally, the most important goal that the Jets — with Sam Darnold — need to achieve is to find himself a set of wide receivers. Yes, we mentioned earlier that the team's failure was more systemic, as a whole. However, without a set of good wide receivers, Darnold as a quarterback will remain undefended.

“This is a huge problem and it highlights one of Maccagnan's biggest failures – finding receivers to go with his young quarterback. There are simply no top-tier receivers available in free agency, and very few available in the draft.”

It's suggested that the Jets look to free agency to fill their needs, though the inventory is rather low at the moment. Golden Tate and Randall Cobb look like the best options for the team, but if they're able to snag A.J. Brown from Ole Miss, he'll do well, too, when paired with Sam Darnold.
