After the Carolina Panthers acquired Baker Mayfield, all eyes are on the San Francisco 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo. There are a handful of teams the veteran quarterback could be dealt to, but the Atlanta Falcons should at least consider making an offer. The quarterback position is nothing to gloat about and bringing him in could help the team immensely. With that in mind, we look at three reasons why the Falcons must trade for Jimmy Garoppolo.

At the end of the day, the current 49ers quarterback is a better option than Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder. Atlanta might be looking to tank the season to snag one of the exciting prospect rookies, but Jimmy Garoppolo could run the Falcons' offense smoothly. Even though he'd have to learn a new system, he could help this team remain competitive in the 2022 NFL season.

Additionally, there is a real chance that Garoppolo could play well enough in Atlanta to be considered a long-term answer at quarterback. Fans might not be excited by that idea, but we've seen players switch teams and excel before. If the Falcons were to make this deal, they could strike gold (or silver, at least) and have a decent starting quarterback for several years.

With that said, here are three reasons why the Falcons must trade for Jimmy Garoppolo.

3 Reasons Falcons Must Trade For Jimmy Garoppolo

3. He's better than Marcus Mariota and Desmond Ridder

Making this trade would immediately improve Atlanta's quarterback situation. Although Marcus Mariota deserves a second chance after playing backup to Derek Carr with the Las Vegas Raiders, Garoppolo would easily make the Falcons a better team.

Additionally, it's not like Desmond Ridder is ready for a starting role right now either. Early reports claim that Mariota is way ahead of Ridder in terms of skill right now. That means the Falcons could trade for Jimmy Garoppolo and allow the rookie quarterback to develop for a few years. Atlanta isn't desperate for a quarterback upgrade, but Garoppolo would fit this scheme well.

2. Falcons can emulate the 49ers' offense with Jimmy Garoppolo

After watching Deebo Samuel excel in a hybrid role with the 49ers, the veteran quarterback could take over and lead a similar offensive attack. Cordarrelle Patterson played well in the same hybrid role last season as well, which gives Jimmy Garoppolo a versatile weapon. Additionally, San Francisco has a superstar tight end in George Kittle while the Falcons have something similar in Kyle Pitts.

On top of that, the 49ers utilize a run-first approach while Atlanta ran the ball well last year. Head coach Arthur Smith stems from the Mike Shanahan coaching tree, so his offensive scheme is already similar to Kyle Shanahan's in San Francisco. For that reason, Jimmy Garoppolo would be a perfect match for the Falcons.

1. Could be the long-term answer at quarterback

This might not be exciting for the fanbase, but this wouldn't be a bad idea for Atlanta. Considering he'd likely fit the scheme well, Garoppolo could maintain being a starting quarterback while the front office continues building the rest of the roster. This could be a move that allows the Falcons to remain competitive while making the moves necessary to continue improving.

This is something we've seen from the Tennessee Titans after trading for Ryan Tannehill. Garoppolo could bring that same effectiveness to Atlanta which could help the franchise get back in contention. It all depends on what the Falcons want to do, but the front office should at least be discussing the possibility of trading for the 49ers' veteran quarterback.
