The Seattle Seahawks fell short against the Los Angeles Rams during Thursday Night Football. It was a big game as Seattle faced off against an NFC West divisional rival. A win would have put them in the mix as a playoff contender, but their future is up in the air for now. It's time to continue our NFL takeaways series with a Seahawks Week 5 takeaway.

Seattle looked solid throughout the first half of the game. The defense only allowed the Rams to score three points and the Seahawks looked to be in control. However, everything fell apart once Russell Wilson fell to injury. The team lost their star quarterback and couldn't keep up with the Rams.

Due to the recent troubles stirring in Seattle, the front office might consider making some changes. If things don't turn around soon, Pete Carroll's job security could be at stake. One way to improve would be to throw the ball to DK Metcalk more often. With that said, here are three Seahawks Week 5 takeaways from their Thursday night matchup against the Rams.

Seahawks Week 5 Takeaways

3. Geno Smith played well, but Seahawks needed Russell Wilson

It's been a while since we've seen Geno Smith under center, but he stepped up and proved himself. He put up a similar stat line to Russell Wilson on Thursday, throwing for 131 yards and one touchdown. However, the interception he threw in the final minutes of the game handed the win to the Rams.

Although Smith played decently enough, the Seahawks were in dire need of Russell Wilson. Hopefully, he recovers from his hand injury soon, as Seattle must find a way to improve their season. Keep an eye on the situation, as the Seahawks will monitor their star quarterback throughout the week.

2. Pete Carroll's seat is heating up

He's been a great coach for the Seattle Seahawks but as of right now, Pete Carroll's clock is ticking. He had a messy offseason and nearly ruined the relationship between the organization and Russell Wilson and now the team finds themselves 2-3 and in last place of the NFC West.

The front office failed to make any real improvements, as much of the key issues the team is having right now are the same as last year. If Pete Carroll can't right the ship and turn this season around, the Seahawks might be entering a rebuild. If that's the case, Carroll is likely out of the door, as he's too old and not looking to be involved with a rebuilding franchise.

1. DK Metcalf deserves more targets

Outside of Russell Wilson, DK Metcalf is the best player on the team. He proved that in Thursday night's game with an impressive 98 receiving yards and two touchdown stat-line. Considering Metcalf played this well against a stout Rams secondary means the Seahawks have to find a way to get him the ball more often.

This could be exactly what Seattle must do to turn things around. The Seahawks have a talented roster, but they're currently struggling to start the season. We'll see what this team can do in the coming weeks, as giving Metcalf more opportunities is necessary for their success.
