With the 2021 NFL Draft just two weeks away, there’s a lot of speculation about who the San Francisco 49ers will select with the third overall pick. For a time, bettors seemed convinced that it would be Alabama quarterback Mac Jones, who is coming off a triumphant junior season, helping the Crimson Tide win the national championship.

But that no longer seems to be the case as a new name has become the favorite to potentially land with the 49ers: Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. After his second Pro Day, Fields has become the odds-on leader to be selected as the third overall pick, according to BetMGM. Per Yahoo Sports, Fields has -140 odds, while Jones is +110.

This means that a winning bet on the Ohio State signal-caller would need a $14 wager to win $10. Those who would bet on the Alabama standout, on the other hand, need a $10 bet to win $11.

Jones’ falling stock in Las Vegas, however, doesn’t necessarily mean that information has already revealed that the 49ers are inclined to select Fields. It is merely an indication that more bettors are putting money on the latter, especially after his workout and interactions with 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan.

A strong showing at a private workout may be enough for people to put their money on Justin Fields as the 49ers’ future quarterback. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that Mac Jones is out of the running. The answer will not be revealed until draft night. But for now, all bets are off.
